THE CRICKET BURBLE TEAM
Dhiraj Shah
Due to a lack of height, strength and adequate hand-eye coordination, Dhiraj started his cricketing career off as a slow bowler and a rabbit. 15 years later nothing has changed. From these humble beginnings, Dhiraj went on to play cricket for the University of Warwick and eventually joined Old Merchant Taylors' CC.
He spends most Saturdays in the season, bowling his off breaks and moaning about not getting a substantial bat (something that he brings onto himself as he tends to use his pads more than his bat). He also likes to think of himself as a maverick cricketer and cannot wait to captain a team centred around a four pronged spin attack.
Dhiraj is a fan of most sports and keeps himself busy in the winter playing football and badminton whilst practising cake eating to get himself into shape and ready for the cricket teas.
Dhiraj works as an accountant with Deloitte and whilst he is working the numbers, he is always thinking of the perfect over (one or two armballs etc).
Favourite cricketing memory:
"Toss up between watching Mohammad Azharuddin score 110 for Derbyshire in my first visit to Lords in 1991 and taking 6 wickets for my club 3rd XI with my fifth wicket the result of a waist high full toss that the batsman duly hit to cow corner where the fielder gleefully caught the ball via his chest."
